GLO Awarded More Than $5 Million For Coastal Habitat Recovery

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced today they have awarded the Texas General Land Office a grant of $5.15 million to restore valuable wildlife habitat along the Texas coast. The grant process was highly competitive, with applicants required to show that their “shovel ready” projects and would bring significant economic and ecological benefits to the area. [more]

Burke Re-Appointed to PHA Commission

By a unanimous vote, the Harris County Mayors' and Councils' Association re-appointed Jimmy A. Burke to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority (PHA) for another two years. Initially appointed to the PHA commission in August 1999, Burke also is a member of the board of Pilot Commissioners. PHA commissioners serve two-year terms without pay.  [more]

Burn Ban For Unincorporated Harris County

Commissioners have approved a 90-day burn ban for unincorporated Harris County. No outdoor burning is allowed except in an enclosure which contains all flames and/or sparks outdoor burning activities authorized by TCEQ, non-commercial cooking, and prescribed welding, grinding, cutting, or "hot work" operations.

The 2009 Leukemia Cup Regatta, hosted by the Houston Yacht Club - June 26-28

This year’s regatta is comprised of several different events to include a golf tournament, a Sip and Sail for the Cure, the Energy2Cure Kick-Off Party, a Poker Run and culminating with the regatta June 26-28.
